Hi Dario, It is an absolute pleasure to meet you. Thank you so much for the support, and for going as far as to submit a PR already. That really means a lot. We’re going to review it, and we’d love to pull it in. The team has been working hard to make OpenVPM a real, clinic-ready tool, and we’ve been lucky to start learning from veterinarians and clinics across different parts of the world. Adding Italy to that list would be amazing. The ethos of this project is exactly what you described: one shared, open codebase that can serve clinics in different countries without everyone needing to fork and rebuild the same thing alone. Country-specific workflows, localization, and integrations should be modular, but the core should stay shared and strong. I’d love to help make OpenVPM usable inside Italian clinics, and I’d be more than happy to meet, learn more about your workflow, and talk through where you think the biggest needs are. Practicing veterinarians who also understand the day-to-day clinic reality are exactly the kind of people we want shaping this. Feel free to email me any time at evan@openvpm.com. Really excited to have you involved. Thanks again, |

Hi Evan,
Thank you so much for the kind message, and thanks again for reviewing and
merging the PR.
I’m really happy to contribute. What you described is exactly the direction
I hoped for: not an Italian fork, but a strong shared OpenVPM core with
modular support for country-specific workflows.
I’d be glad to help from the perspective of a practicing veterinarian
working inside Italian clinics. I can share concrete workflows around
appointments, medical records, invoicing, prescriptions, owner
communication, and the practical pain points we deal with every day.
I’d also be very happy to take on another small issue if there is something
useful and well-scoped you think would be a good next contribution.
Looking forward to speaking and helping where I can.
Best,
Dario

Hi everyone,
My name is Dario. I’m an Italian veterinarian working in clinical practice every day, and I found OpenVPM while searching for an open-source veterinary practice management system I could actually adopt in my own clinic.
After exploring the repository, I decided I would much rather contribute to OpenVPM than build an unrelated project from scratch. I’ve already opened my first pull request, and I hope it will be the first of many.
My long-term objective is to make OpenVPM usable in Italy. I don’t want to maintain a permanent fork if it can be avoided; I’d much prefer to contribute improvements upstream so every country benefits from the same shared codebase. I believe country-specific functionality should remain modular and separated from the core.
I’m especially interested in internationalization, localization, AI-assisted veterinary workflows, interoperability, and modular architecture. Because I am a practicing veterinarian, I also hope to contribute real-world clinical workflows and usability feedback, not just code.
I’d love to understand the long-term vision of the project and align my future work with the maintainers’ priorities. My goal is to become a long-term contributor to OpenVPM.
Thanks for welcoming me!
