So I figured this out, but thought I'd provide an update in case anyone else encounter the same problem.
I am on Windows 11, using SOFA version 22.06.

  1. Download the plugin version corresponding to v22.06 from here (https://github.com/sofa-framework/SofaHapticAvatar/releases/tag/release-v22.06). Download the "Source code.zip" file which includes CMakeLists.txt.
  2. Extract the plugin in a folder outside SOFA, e.g. C:/SOFA_PLUGINS/SofaHapticAvatar. Name the folder the same as the plugin (case sensitive).
  3. Write a "CMakeLists.txt" file and place it in the "../SOFA_PLUGINS" folder. It should contain: sofa_add_subdirectory(plugin SofaHapticAvatar SofaHapticAvatar). Documentation was a bit conflicti…
