Integrate Chat2Geo Functionalities into MapViewer

[marta-baraibar]

Description
To enhance the capabilities of MapViewer, we propose integrating functionalities from Chat2Geo. This will allow users to leverage natural language processing (NLP) for geospatial queries and improve interaction with the map interface.

Proposed Features

• Natural Language Queries: Users can input text-based queries to search for locations, filter data, and interact with the map dynamically.
• Geocoding & Reverse Geocoding: Convert place names into coordinates and vice versa.
• Spatial Analysis via Chat: Enable natural language commands for spatial queries, e.g., "Show me all weather stations within 50km of Nairobi."
• Data Extraction & Display: Fetch relevant geospatial data based on user prompts and display it within MapViewer.
• Multi-language Support: Allow users to query the map in multiple languages, if supported by Chat2Geo.

Benefits

• Improves user experience by simplifying complex geospatial queries.
• Reduces manual map interactions by enabling a conversational approach.
• Increases accessibility for non-GIS experts to interact with MapViewer.
• Implementation Considerations
• Evaluate compatibility between Chat2Geo's API and MapViewer.
• Identify necessary backend modifications for smooth integration.
• Define UI/UX elements for chat-based interactions.
• Ensure performance efficiency, avoiding excessive API calls.

Next Steps

• Assess feasibility and scope of integration.
• Define the API endpoints and data exchange format.
• Prototype a basic integration and test key functionalities.
• Optimize user experience based on feedback.
