Issue Details

AdGuard Mini for Mac currently blocks ads and trackers only in Safari via extensions. Apps outside the browser - native Mac apps remain unprotected.

Apple introduced the NEURLFilter API (WWDC 2025), which enables system-wide URL filtering at the network level without requiring a VPN slot.

Proposed solution

Implement NEURLFilter support in AdGuard Mini for Mac to enable system-wide blocking across all apps, not just Safari.

Looks like it has been implemented and is now available for public testing, great news.

I've been a little lost still with the decision to include such a highly requested system-wide feature on a 'mini' version and completely exclude any implementation into the self-proclaimed 'full-fledged' AdGuard for Mac, as the filtering mode options on the full version still cannot function with some of macOS's built-in features that are enabled by default (Protect Mail Activity and Hide IP Address from Trackers). Even when automatically upgraded to use iCloud Private Relay for paying iCloud users, it will result in compatibility issues with AdGuard for Mac with Mail refusing to load any remote content and with macOS constantly prompting the user that every network they connect to isn't allowing iCloud Private Relay (when in reality it is AdGuard for Mac causing this issue).

AdGuard for Mac doesn't even prompt the user to disable iCloud Private Relay, Protect Mail Activity nor Hide IP Address from Trackers unless the user actively reaches online and finds the related KB article about it. This is something I would have expected at the very least.

I've been patient with AdguardTeam/AdguardForMac#1703 and suggested implementing URL Filters support before it was planned for AdGuard Mini to resolve all of this, but it seems like it's not going to happen.

For iCloud+ users who use Safari as their main browser, and who have been using AdGuard for Mac (myself for 10 years now), I can't see how I need to uninstall it and use AdGuard Mini instead in order to have the better compatible system-wide filtering option for me, because there is no URL Filters support for system-wide protection on AdGuard for Mac.

Just having a think out loud. Any clarification or thoughts are welcome.
