Tru

Tru aims to be the true general-purpose programming language.

Tru provides you with the language and tools to write intuitive, readbale, performant, scalable and modular systems that leave you with a sense of Tru satisfaction. Gone will be the frustrations of writing software that is only "good enough". Instead, you will be able to communicate your intentions clearly to both humans and machines without compromising on performance for your users.

Specification

Tru's spec is currently a work in progress and not formalised into a document that can be read by others. Getting this spec out is currently the main priority.

Development

Tru is currently in its very early stages of development - there hasn't even yet been a consistent syntax decided. Right now, focus is on the core language ideas, features, and philosophies. As such, development has started from the abstract syntax tree, skipping the lexer/tokeniser and parser for the timebeing.

The compiler is being developed in C++ until it can be written in Tru itself. In particular, it openly uses the latest standard and its features, including modules, std::expected, and <print>. It also uses Xmake as its build system, although support for CMake (and potentially other build systems like Make) can be integrated.

Contributions

The Tru language spec itself is led by me, but I am very much open to feedback, ideas, and constructive criticism.

Since the compiler is being bootstrapped off C++, and as such, any contributions to improving code quality there is also much appreciated. Feel free to open any issues and pull requests, but keep in mind that as the language is in such early stages, any messy code is less so accidental and more of a to-be-improved-later anyway.

If you are particularly interested in Tru's development, you can find me in the Programming Language Development Discord server under the #tru channel.
