Overview
git-aic is expanding its capabilities to offer developers a built-in way to easily maintain a clean, conventional CHANGELOG.md in their projects.
Since developers are already using git-aic to write high-quality, semantic commit messages, it is a natural progression for git-aic to provide a command that parses those excellent commits and formats them into a beautiful changelog. This gives developers an all-in-one toolset for managing their repository's history and releases.
Use Cases
- Zero-Cost Local Generation (Default): A developer runs
git aic changelog. The CLI instantly parses their project's git history, groups the semantic commits (feat, fix, chore), and renders them into a conventional CHANGELOG.md locally. This costs 0 API tokens and runs instantly.
- Intelligent AI Synthesis: A developer runs
git aic changelog --ai when their repository history is messy or they want a rich executive summary for a major release. The CLI uses their configured LLM to read the commits and synthesize a flowing, human-readable summary.
- Release Preparation: A developer runs
git aic changelog --tag v1.2.0 right before publishing a new version. The CLI automatically gathers all undocumented commits and neatly formats them under the new [v1.2.0] version block instead of [Unreleased].
