Automated bridge job RQ-PLUG-BASH-SUMMARIZER-TESTS (pool: codex-personal), single commit on base 711fdfa99.

Tests: no test command

Agent notes

RQ-PLUG-BASH-SUMMARIZER-TESTS

Added 40 table-driven regression cases under tests/ for the registry and
bash MCP server. Production code is unchanged.

  • Registry: exact head/tail windows, thresholds, blank-line counting, opaque
binary controls, 100,000-character single lines, and long retained lines.
  • MCP: 2,048-character compression boundary, 800-character head/tail windows,
4,096-character failure tails, compact=false, complete stderr, binary controls
and invalid UTF-8 decoded through real JSON-RPC subprocesses.
  • No server/, .github/, CODEOWNERS, release or publish configuration changes.
  • No credentials created or accessed. No commits, pushes, tags or publishing.
The explicit no-publish instruction supersedes the queue's publish.sh item.

Validation

Every test command below used HOME=$(mktemp -d).

Command Result
bun install --frozen-lockfile Passed, 119 packages; lockfile unchanged
bun run typecheck Passed
bun run mdx-lint Passed, 84 files scanned
bun test tests/bash-summarizers-registry.test.ts 85 passed, 0 failed
bun test tests/bash-server.test.ts tests/bash-summarizers-registry.test.ts 119 passed, 0 failed, 370 assertions
CI=1 bun run test 3,962 passed, 18 skipped by existing suite, 3 failed across 254 files
bun test tests/dashboard-render.test.ts tests/sessionend-hook-health-nudge.test.ts 92 passed, 2 failed
git diff --check Passed

The full suite is not green. Unchanged dashboard-render tests fail both in the
full suite and isolation: "no output line exceeds 80 visible cols with null
stats" and "null stats: no line exceeds 80 cols". The unchanged health-nudge
scan timing test took 519ms against a 500ms assertion under full-suite load;
it passed in isolation at 45ms. No assertions were weakened or tests changed
to accommodate these failures. CI=1 uses the existing runner's timing budget.

Initial validation attempts before dependency installation failed due to missing
modules and bun-types. Early concurrent test runs were interrupted after timing
failures in existing subprocess tests. The final focused run above passed with
the default local timeout, after the full suite finished.

Diff size

Tests: +118 / -0 lines, net +118 LOC. Including this 45-line bridge note:
+163 / -0 lines, net +163 lines. All changes remain uncommitted.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Expanded coverage for command output formatting across different output sizes, compact settings, and exit codes.
    • Added checks for truncation boundaries, retained output content, and binary data represented as text.
    • Added validation for long single-line output and summarizer behavior around blank lines, trailing newlines, and file counts.

The new binary fallback test misses the behavior it intends to protect. This is a bounded test-coverage gap, not a known runtime failure, and need not block merging.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in tests/bash-server.test.ts: Added parameterized output-formatting tests covering sizes around 2048 bytes, a 100,000-byte line, compact mode disabled, and successful or failing commands. They assert the expected stdout body and stderr framing, exit code, truncation marker, and compact-saved text; failure output uses an 800-byte head and 4096-byte tail when truncation is expected.
  • observed — Modified behavior in tests/bash-server.test.ts: Added tests that write the same byte sequence, including control and non-ASCII bytes, to stdout and stderr with compact mode both enabled and disabled. They check the UTF-8-decoded content and exit status, and expect no elision marker.
  • observed — Modified behavior in tests/bash-summarizers-registry.test.ts: Adds exact threshold-window tests for ls, find, rg, and grep. Counts at or below each threshold must return null; larger counts must produce the configured head and tail, elision count, and total, with find also reporting the .ts type count. Input blank lines and the final newline are excluded from the count.
  • observed — Modified behavior in tests/bash-summarizers-registry.test.ts: Adds tests that selected commands return null for binary-control output and 100,000-character single lines. For ls, find, and rg, also checks that summarization retains long first and last lines exactly and elides a middle line.

Exercise binary controls above the line threshold.

The fixture contains one nonempty line, so ls, find, and rg return null from their line-count guards. A multiline fixture with 51 nonempty lines is needed to test binary fallback above all three thresholds.
