Hi! 👋 We are a Special Education School and we use Asterics Grid with our students as an AAC tool.

We would like to suggest a possible improvement: an automatic context-based board switching system, where the communicator could change boards depending on the student’s location and/or time/activity.

For example, when entering the cafeteria, playground, classroom, gym, etc., the relevant vocabulary board would automatically appear, without the student having to manually find and switch between boards.

We think this could greatly improve independence and accessibility, especially for students who find it difficult to navigate between different boards or anticipate which vocabulary they need in each situation.

Do you think something like this could be technically possible in Asterics Grid? 😊

Hmm, thinking shortly about it, I can imagine some sort of rules which could be set like:

• on Tuesdays, around 9AM -> switch to cafeteria board
• at the trainstation at location XY -> switch to board for travel

Accessing location in the app should be possible - but only if the user gives permission for it.
However, I'm not sure if there is a real benefit or if it also would confuse users at some times. What if the board suddenly switches to "cafeteria", but I'm not at the cafeteria this time? Also probably many times one single board for one location is probably not enough, so people again will have to manually switch boards - so is there really a benefit from the automatic switching?

These are my first thoughts and questions - but I'm not working with AAC users on a day-to-day basis, so probably you know the real needs more than I - so I'm interested what you're thinking about my thoughts.
