Part of #27. This is the release-gate PR after completion of the scientific-validation and numerical-core work.

Scope

  • Align NEWS.md with the actual 0.8.0 feature/correction/validation set.
  • Align README.md with the frozen public API, executable vignettes, S-chart numerical core, and post-release roadmap.
  • Update cran-comments.md with the current cross-platform CRAN-style CI status, verified package metadata, and the known reverse dependency RcmdrPlugin.UCA.
  • Add a repository-only release checklist and exclude it from the source tarball.
  • Remove the sole native R 4.1 pipe found in the test suite so Depends: R (>= 3.5.0) is not contradicted by test syntax.

Metadata audit

DESCRIPTION already has Version: 0.8.0. The maintainer, Authors@R roles, GPL-2 license, package URLs, and CRAN package DOI in inst/CITATION were reviewed against the current CRAN 0.7 metadata; no maintainer or license change is proposed.

Checks already green on master before this PR

The post-#103 R-CMD-check run passed on:

  • Ubuntu / R-devel
  • Ubuntu / R release
  • Ubuntu / R oldrel-1
  • Windows / R release
  • macOS / R release

The independent pkgdown, URL, documentation-quality, and coverage workflows were also green.

Deliberately not done in this PR

No new statistical method is introduced. Tagging, GitHub release creation, final tarball approval, win-builder/external CRAN preflight, reverse-dependency verification, and CRAN submission remain after this PR passes its own checks.
