The macos-13 runner image will be shut down on 4 December 2025.

The brownout will start in November.

Note that while GitHub offers a paid Intel-based macos-14-large image, there is no free standard macos-14-intel image available.

The macos-13 (x86_64) runner image is deprecated. This patch migrates to
macos-15-intel, the last supported Intel-based macOS image for GitHub-
hosted runners.

Should we test the build with all of macos-15-intel, macos-14-large (intel) and macos-15, macos-14 ?

Edit: sorry, I missed that macos-14-large is paid.

Well, if we want to add macOS builds to test.yml, it makes sense to start with the latest version, since most users tend to update their OS soon after release.

At least for now, macos-latest still means macos-15, but indeed I did not realise there is a "preview" of macos-26. We could add both, the "deploy" set of jobs run very quickly, so it seems fine to add many OS versions if possible.

Let's merge this before the brown-outs start, and think about possibly adding more OS variations in the future.
